Summer Programs

Book Bug Programs

Kids, ages 11 and under, can make a big splash this summer by taking place in the library’s Book Bug programs.  Held six times throughout the summer, these programs keep kids engaged in reading throughout the summer months with programs that showcase some fun summer titles with games, activities, and programs that fit all ages.

Wednesday, June 8, 4:30 pm @ the Park on G: Summer Kick-Off Water Games
Wednesday, June 22, 4:30 pm @ the library: Family Game Night
Wednesday, June 29, 1:00 pm @ the library: Dive Deep Into Great Lakes Shipwrecks
Wednesday, July 13, 4:30 pm @ the library: Are you smarter than a cephalopod?
Wednesday, July 27, 4:30 pm @ the library: Ocean Soup: What it is and why you shouldn’t eat it!
Wednesday, Augusta 10, 4:00pm @ the Lions Hall: Dinosaur Dimensions
Attendees at any book bug program get to choose a book that is theirs to keep with two special Book Bug dates for Summer School attendees.  That’s right, those who attend summer school and Book Bug library programs will get up to 8 new books to add to their personal library this summer.

Plus, attending 4 or more of the library programs qualifies participants for a field trip!  This year’s trip is scheduled for Friday, August 12.  The field trip will be to the Henry Vilas Zoo and the Madison Children’s Museum. More information regarding the field trip will be available in August.

Tiny Art Show

Create a minature painting and have your artwork displayed at the library as part of our first annual Summer Tiny Art Show! Mini artist kits will be available at the library starting May 31. The theme for this year’s show will be “Oceans of Possibilities.” Limited supplies will be made available at the library, or take your canvas home and add your own flair.  All we ask is that finished masterpieces be returned to the Library by Tuesday, June 21 to be featured in the art show which opens on Tuesday, June 28.

#ReadingIsWorthIt

Let’s make time for ourselves this summer and commit to reading at least 20 minutes a day for two weeks.  Fill out and sign a commitment form then, starting June 6 track your reading for just two weeks.  If you are able to take the time every day, that’s great!  Check in with a staff member to share what you were able to read in the two weeks.  Make note of any challenges you had to overcome to make your 20 minutes of reading everyday happen.
Complete a two week challenge and earn a prize.  Complete more than one challenge and be entered into the grand prize drawing! You can get up to five entries into the drawing this summer.
Challenges should be completed by August 27 and returned no later than Friday, September 2.  Drawing will take place on Saturday, September 3, with winners contacted by September 10.
